History: here
Personality: Margaery is as beautiful as she is clever and as AMBITIOUS as she is clever. She is also an ENABLER and MANIPULATIVE. However, she also has her moments of KINDNESS.

She had no desire to simply be A queen, she wanted to be THE queen. Given that her country was at war with four contenders for the Iron Throne at the time she said this, this clearly shows her desire to be on the winning side, whatever it may be and regardless of consequence. After Renly's death and Margaery's future is left uncertain, that's when she makes the statement that she didn't want to be A queen, she wanted to be THE queen. This statement of unbridled ambition is what put her on her path to ultimate power in Westeros which ultimately led to her death. Margaery was willing to ally with anyone who could make her desire for power a reality. It's not entirely all cold ambition with Margaery, though. Some of her ambitions express themselves in warmer ways. She had the desire to be loved by the commonfolk as well as the court, making a point of going to the worst slums in King's Landing on an errand of charity, all the while making sure that the commoners knew that it was the Tyrell family who saved them from a siege and were responsible for the end of the hunger plaguing King's Landing since the start of the wars.

She is also an enabler of both Renly, her first husband, and Joffrey, her fiance and second husband. Margaery realizes that Renly is not attracted to women and when he fails to rouse during her attempt to seduce him, she offers to bring her brother who Renly is in love with and attracted to into the bedroom with them to get Renly sexually excited enough to be able to consummate his marriage to Margaery. When Renly dies and she becomes Joffrey's fiance, she played to his blood-thirsty instincts, becoming a borderline Nightmare Fuel Fetishist by reveling in his love for the hunt and for the macabre. There's a scene when Joffrey first gets his crossbow and is showing it off to Margaery. She acts aroused by his behavior and remarks on how it must be to pull the trigger from a distance and watch something die further away.

Margaery is also incredibly manipulative. She grew up as the student of her infamously tart-tongued grandmother, Olenna Tyrell -- The Queen of Thorns. Olenna taught Margaery how to seem pleasing while pursuing her own ambitions, how to be ruthless while maintaining a smile, and how to seduce men into loving by becoming the woman they wanted. While Joffrey wanted someone as depraved as he was, Tommen wanted someone else. With Tommen, she was the sweet, pleasing wife, using her feminine wiles to try to get her husband to send his mother (Margaery's nemesis) away, making a play to influence a very young man, newly made king after his brother's death. She's told by her grandmother that her best option is to make Joffrey's younger brother, the new king, Tommen besotted with her. She pursues this option with a vengeance. She slips into Tommen's bedchamber after he's asleep and together they bond over their fear of Joffrey and Margaery makes a point of admiring Tommen's beloved pet cat. While she is gentle with Tommen, she never fully lets her goal of winning Tommen's affections and becoming his queen out of her sight

Margaery does have moments of genuine kindness and consideration for others, though. She also made a point of befriending Sansa Stark who had been engaged to her second husband-to-be, Joffrey. She realized that the lonely Northern girl had no friends in King's Landing and that getting Sansa engaged to her brother, Loras, would gain her family not only a hold on King's Landing but the North as well. However, she maintains her friendship with Sansa even after the Tyrell plot to marry her off to Loras falls through and even tries to cheer her up after Sansa finds out she's to marry Tyrion Lannister. Margaery shows that she's of no illusions about what she can expect from marrying Joffrey and even expresses a dark sense of humor about it. She tells her grandmother that Joffrey would likely be most pleased by Margaery wearing a necklace of severed sparrow heads to their wedding. She also makes no attempt to hide her distaste at the wedding entertainment, which consisted of dwarves in a play-joust enacting the War of the Five Kings. This entertainment involved a dwarf dressed as Renly riding a fake horse made to look like her brother, Loras, making a mockery of the two men's relationship. This shows that her loyalty and love for her family can overcome even her own attempts to be pleasing to those around her.
