It has made it easier to get around, although I didn't mind being close to the ocean, actually. I found it calming.

As did I and the climate was far better, too. It's simply that everywhere I needed to go seemed to be located on another island than the one I lived on.

Having to go so far for an evening drink was a little annoying. Or rather, getting back again.

Ah, I didn't exactly have that problem. The last time the so-called gods had a feast for us, I was provided with a large number of bottles of Arbor Gold wine. I took them back to my house and have managed to make them last ever since.

[Okay. That earns an amused snort.]

I suppose that would make things a lot simpler.

It does, actually. I only drink it on special occasions or when I'm feeling especially. . . pressed, so it's lasted quite a while.

That wasn't when all those items were appearing, was it? Or was it a different occasion?

A different occasion. Oh, it's been months ago! Likely before we even moved to the islands.

Then it must have indeed been a good supply. We've all but run out of the coffee that we found.

It was! Twenty bottles at least and of a very good vintage. Though, I'm sorry, I must admit, I'm not terribly fond of coffee.

I used to more or less run off of the stuff... Less so now.

What do you drink in the morning then? Tea? Water? Juice?

Usually tea. They have some decent blends at the shop. Nothing from home, of course, but that--what do they call it?--Tazo tea is good enough.

Was lucky to run across some when those goods just started showing up in random places.

Can't say I've ever tried that kind, actually. Some greens, peppermint, Earl Grey.

Ohh! I remember when that happened. I didn't find anything personally, but I know of others who did. I honestly can't think of anything from home that I'd want aside from my brother or grandmother.

Oh, they have some of those teas. They're quite good. I think my favorite is the chai, though.

They're the only family you have, or?

[Carolina never really knew any of her parents family, so not much to miss there. If anything, those agents of Project Freelancer and the Sim Troopers have been more family than her actual blood.]

Not the only family, no. My mother died some years ago, but my brother and I had our father. And a plethora of cousins! So many cousins, I couldn't keep them all straight at times. But my brother and my grandmother are the most important to me.

Yes, that's it! Isn't it good? I often have to search for it in the shops, but it's worth the effort.

Yes, it does. I hate getting my hopes up, but I truly can't help it. But you seem to have a great many people from your world here.

Where I'm from, a space ship would be unheard of. As would any other kind of ship that didn't use sails and oars.

It's fine. This place does give you the chance to see people that you might otherwise not have seen again.

I suppose that's something to be grateful for. I do wish that the people from my world knew more about the wars to come. I died before either started and they came here as they were to begin.

It certainly seems that way! I'll have to become accustomed to it as I plan to go to New York City of 2017.
